NBA Playoffs: Sorry Lebron - Better Luck Next Year!

Congratulations, Golden State!

The Golden State Warriors did a great job in this years playoffs.  In fact all the teams did; it was an exciting playoff season, with interesting storylines.

The two biggest stories are of Stephen Curry of the Warriors, and Lebron James of the Cavs.  They battled against each other; only one can win.
At the start of the series, it looked like the Cavs really had a chance.  They were scoring, they were defending, and Lebron James was amazing.  But over the final few games, it became clear that the warriors could play at a faster pace.    They wore out the Cavaliers.   The Warriors like to use a strategy called 'small ball' where they have only one, or even no true big man on the court.  But they can run, and they can shoot - and that is why they were the scoring champs in the regular season.

Curry was League MVP During the Regular Season

Stephen Curry was also the league MVP during the regular season - and not Lebron James.  In some ways, Lebron's accomplishments in the playoffs were just as impressive as if he had won it all; because the Cav's were not even expected to make the playoffs.  They started the year off badly.  But they just got better and better.   Yet, just when they seemed to have all pieces fitting together, they lost two of their starting five for final series.  It is hard to come back from that.

Lebron is unstoppable.  So the Warriors decided to let him score, let him do his thing, let him get tired... and they focused on the rest of the team.  Lebron, at 280, just cannot run at NBA pace for an entire series if the team defending knows how to play him.

Prospects for Next Year

We here at GDL believe that next year, it will be the same two teams in the finals - and if the Cavs are healthy, they will have more firepower.  They might need to upgrade one guard position - other than that, both teams are complete and should compete very well  next year.
