Team USA loses 2-1 to Belgium
Another Howard Save! It was an entertaining game from start to finish, but the US lost to Belgium today in the World cup.
Tim Howard saved goal after goal, and seemed invincible. But in the end, the US lost, in overtime. The team played its heart out, in Brasil, making it to the final 16. Belgium will not face Lionel Messi, and Argentina.
Howard had 16 saves - the most of any goalkeeper since 1966.
The game was tied at 0-0, causing over time. Belgium scored quickly - twice - in the first 5 minutes. The US fought back valiantly, able to finally score - but not enough to tie or win.

Clearly the US has a strong defense but needs to improve on offense. Offense and defense feed each other; if you offense is weak, then you spend all your time defending your goal - and that will have bad consequences.

This popularity has several causes including strong Hispanic viewing, popularity amongst 'Millenials', and being in the same time zone as the US. This will help soccer in the US at all levels. Plus this year the world cup has had more scoring than usual, which adds to the excitement.
Fans sensed that this US team had grit, determination, and confidence - so the sky is the limit now. The days are long gone when the US was considered to have no chance in the world cup - now, it is just a matter of time!
